Why B.R.E.C. Exists:

  • As an aspiring firefighter, this work connects me to the community I hope to serve with one day. Through B.R.E.C., I learn from those doing the job and build meaningful relationships with first responders who put others first every day.

  • Every year, firefighters are injured or killed in the line of duty—and a significant number of those cases are tied to cardiac events, fatigue, and physical strain.‍ ‍FIRE SERVICE DATA‍ ‍consistently shows that cardiovascular strain, fatigue, and overexertion are major contributors to line-of-duty injuries and fatalities.

The risks aren’t theoretical, training needs to reflect that.

B.R.E.C. Fitness STandards

  1. The BREC Fitness Standards are benchmarks that represent a well-rounded level of strength, endurance, and durability.

  2. These are not to deter you or meant to be elite—I’m encouraging you to view them as fun, attainable goals to work towards.

  3. These are goals, not the ceiling. Once you meet them, the work doesn’t stop—you maintain it, safely throughout your life.

  4. The real flex above them all is to remain injury-free.
